Meet Me in New York

Sometimes I get a little 𝒂𝒓𝒕𝒔𝒚 online. I love being able to post my real life on here...quiet moments captured candidly, empty restaurants I sipped wine in, paintings that I admire, sculptures that I have appraised, and books that I lose myself in.⠀⠀

I’ll be sharing a series of photographs called 𝑴𝒆𝒆𝒕 𝑴𝒆 𝒊𝒏 𝑵𝒆𝒘 𝒀𝒐𝒓𝒌 that I curated while visiting the big apple. This is the first one of the series, taken by my best friend and most recent Brooklynite @taryntuffnut while we spent the day at The Met.

These shots I love...because they feel nostalgic to me. When I was editing them, all my incredible memories from my time in New York flooded back to me.

"In every block of marble I see a statue as plain as though it stood before me, 𝒔𝒉𝒂𝒑𝒆𝒅 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒇𝒆𝒄𝒕 𝒊𝒏 𝒂𝒕𝒕𝒊𝒕𝒖𝒅𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒂𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏. I have only to hew away the rough walls that imprison the lovely apparition to reveal it to the other eyes as mine see it." -𝑴𝒊𝒄𝒉𝒆𝒍𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒍𝒐 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣

I love this quote...just a little reminder that we are all sculptors, carving our lives into something lovely and unexpected. When I came across this piece, my instinct was to track the movement in the art and pull from my perspective. It revealed to me a few ideas...dance, movement, force and fabric. A balance of femininity of shape with the masculinity of the medium. ⁣⁣

𝑰𝒏 𝑷𝒖𝒓𝒔𝒖𝒊𝒕 𝒐𝒇 𝑭𝒂𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒐𝒏. After an entire morning strolling through the Met...we got lost. We walked down a few hallways, then down an elevator, and then down a set of stairs thinking we were about to somehow get close to the exit, but luckily we stumbled into this exhibition. I was so excited because it was not one I wanted to miss..⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Into the dark hall we went, where mannequins filled the room featuring promised gifts from Sandy Schreier. She was a pioneer collector, who curated one of the finest private fashion collections for over half a century...could you imagine committing to a craft for over half a century? 𝑰 𝒄𝒂𝒏 𝒃𝒂𝒓𝒆𝒍𝒚 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒊𝒕 𝒕𝒐 𝒘𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝑰 𝒘𝒂𝒏𝒕 𝒕𝒐 𝒆𝒂𝒕 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒃𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒌𝒇𝒂𝒔𝒕...⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Anyways...@taryntuffnut snapped this photo of me in full fashion euphoria.

To be continued...
